This type of insulation involves cementitious wood fibre planks. These planks are combined with a layer of foam that is used to create a dual-purpose deck along with a structural-insulating function. However, these materials were used in older roofs, and their production has been discontinued now. It is because the foam-based insulation with a structural deck works perfectly.
LWIC:
It stands for lightweight insulating concrete. It has further two main types:
- Cellular concrete
- Expanded aggregate concrete
The cellular concrete is made when a foaming agent and a cement or water slurry is blended, whereas expanded aggregate concrete is made using expanded materials, including mica, polystyrene, or perlite. It then expanded by heat, and these aggregates have a high affinity for water. Unlike perimeter insulation, it creates lightweight yet low-density concrete.
SPF:
It stands for sprayed polyurethane foam. This type of insulation works as both a waterproofing system and structural insulation. Basically, this insulation type is a combination of different types of chemicals that are sprayed on a roof deck in layers in order to make a monolithic surface. And sometimes, it even utilised a protective roof coating in order to perform as a primary roof covering. SPF is referred to as a very lightweight foam that can be easily applied over all substrates.
